Memorial Day Weekend 2020

Evenin’ to all on this sticky humid night. Bit behind today on the post but did lots of good work for school. The weekend was wonderful! We did go to Elk Rapids (which is north of Traverse City). Now, before you question my judgment here, we only went to my parents/grandfather’s house and there was never more than 10 people. We didn’t go anywhere while there and we’d all been quarantined prior to this. My grandfather is older and we have some immune compromised people in the family so it made the most sense to go now. While things are starting to open back up, we felt that since it was in the early stage it was the best window of time to go to their house. We will be responsible.

It was Papa D’s birthday awhile back so we gave him some presents!

The weather was great for the most part and the foods even better.

Enjoyed some time in the hot tub and a fire on the deck. JM even got to play in the pool his Nana and Papa got him to hang in. John Michael said he had so much fun! I enjoyed my run along the lake.

When I got home, Jess had left this cozy blanket on my doorstep! Thanks Jess 🙂 I love it!

And onto the real reason for the season. I am and will always be forever grateful for the sacrifices men and women have made for our country. Thank you will never be enough really. Normally, I have my students participate in Memorial Day services every year. Since that could not happen, I participated in Taps Across America. It was an honor. Thank you to all who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Haircuts and funny things

Well… I gave it my best try cutting the hair of a squirmy 4 year old and my husband. Joe’s hair was significantly easier because he sits still. Still gotta work up the nerve to fix the top of his hair some more today. And John’s needs some tweaking. Still… they look a little less shaggy. Do not think I will add hair stylist to my resume. haha.

John Michael has this dog that John Fay got him- this big stuffed lab. I am always shouting at that thing thinking it’s Remi. Pretty hilarious. I walked into the back bedroom and he put this dog in the crate. hahahaha.

Beautiful day here. Some things to get done school-wise. Might just have to do some grading on the back porch!

Sunday, Monday, Happy Days

Rain is a good thing! (Weird: my son’s show just came on and is singing that song, Rain, Rain Go Away). Dreary today but…happy Monday to all! Was a wonderful weekend.

Made some pork and gouda burgers Friday.

My son needs to stop with the stamps.

Got out the bikes Saturday and took a ride. Made low carb breakfast burritos out of what was in the fridge. Turkey lunchmeat, peppers, eggs, provolone, etc. They turned out pretty good. Did some free throws. Also, a very sweet student sent me this surprise card. What a thoughtful student!

Saturday was my brother’s birthday so we played some virtual cards with him and Christie. Really fun! Cards Against Humanity but a digital version. Worked pretty well! Joe ran out of batteries. haha.

Sunday was mostly relaxing. We watched church and did a curbside pickup for groceries which was really nice for a change. Rainy. Didn’t really eat very good- but the chips and queso and wine with the couch sitting was good times. Remi and I took a walk in the rain though. Probably didn’t burn off the chips ahha.

Today I got things done but it was hard. Wet and cold. Did my intervals in the rain. Got the school stuff done. Made a good dinner. Not too bad. I heard the rain lingers tomorrow but should clear up Wednesday. Hope so.

Well, gotta go check some emails and wind down for the evening. Hope you all have a good Tuesday. Peace for now!

Cheerful

Happy Friday! The weather is beautiful and cheerful. Finished up a workout and some band lessons. I plan to do some grading and a creative project for my band kids. The high school band is “meeting” at 11:00am. Should be good times.

I know. It’s sad. This is literally posted on my desk to remind myself to let people talk and not just think of my response.

My son is eating a peanut butter sandwich on my couch. That will be good I am sure.

Gotta get back to it. Have a splendid weekend!

A good day for a good day.

Late on my blog post again today. It was a busy, happy, and good day for the most part. Great lessons with the kids. Good meetings with area directors. After this, John and I took a walk. Lots of beautiful tulips out!

There’s a kid in there somewhere… 🙂

Another Hello Fresh dinner tonight and it was very good. Pork stir fry. All we do is eat pork these days. But that is ok with me!

And that is the deal on today! Lots accomplished and looking forward to the weekend ahead. Later!

Long days, good foods

Long Tuesday and Wednesday. Hence, the late post today. Long and productive meetings but also good work with students. And today the middle school students and I had some fun with some music jams and trivia! They are the coolest. Got out for a run (intervals) and a walk to clear my head. The weather was quite nice.

So when I was younger and much too old, I colored on the basement walls with crayon. I was pretending to be a teacher and was writing things like math problems and English on the walls and talking to my fake class. But I’ll give it to my parents- way too old for that. Karma y’all. John Michael has colored in crayon in his bedroom. In marker on the living room windows. Paint covers the furniture in the sunroom. Yesterday’s addition: markers in the carpet. Jammed right up in there. Good times. On the plus side, I am starting to see him draw things like cars, suns, and volcanoes!

But… at least the foods were good. I am starting to perfect my salmon making- was really good! Lemon and butter but also fresh dill out of my garden- (that Aerogarden is so cool- thanks Mom!), and a hint of spice with some cayenne. Sweet potatoes are getting perfected too. Joe is really liking those lately.

Tonight I made a Hello Fresh meal which was pretty good. Bruschetta chicken with bacon mashed potatoes and asparagus. Could definitely make that again. They sent some basil that looked pretty sad. Good news, I just went to the old sunroom garden and cut my own fresh basil!

Ended last night with some stories and so I should probably go and get that underway for this evening.

Time to relax, much needed. Have a good evening!

Re-adjust

New day, new thoughts. Fresh start.

Made me some fresh squeezed orange juice yesterday. Unbelievably good.

John likes this little spot he makes for himself in the sunroom. His fort!

We watched a Back to the Future reunited show yesterday. So good! JM jammed to it.

Here’s the link if you want!

Hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Mother’s Day Weekend

Good morning!

Lovely weekend. We made steaks, mushrooms, potatoes, and salad Saturday night. Everything was set to go on the grill (except the salad) but the propane went out as the potatoes were on. So I saved it on the stovetop. Tasty stuff!

Joe is the best of husbands. He got me some “prizes” (as John Michael says). I love the way he wrapped this up in an Easter basket. haha. We made breakfast together and I made fresh orange juice! He made the perfect egg (he’s super proud of it). He cleaned up the house and I got to watch all the Hugh Jackman movies I wanted. Took a drive to be in the car parade for his grandma. Called all the moms which was fun. A nice fire. Overall, quite lovely.

Here’s a few photos of all the moms in our life. We are pretty lucky.

And of course, this little stinker made me a mom and he is my one. He has his moments like any of us but overall he’s so sweet and we are very blessed.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Back to work for me with my new “camp” coffee mug!

Happiness. :)

It is Friday! Long but good week. Did my last intense exercise of the week out on the roads. Brisk today. Remi joined me for part of it. Happy girl.

img_6564

Yesterday was busy with lots of meetings and today is too actually. But all good things.

img_6551

Last night’s dinner was simple but good. Pork tenderloin with green beans and sweet potatoes. Gonna tweak the pork a bit but was pretty good.

img_6548

The garden has been pruned. Some fresh basil and parsley in the cups in the fridge.

img_6559

Except for when you watch Back to the Future on repeat during the quarantine! Best movie ever. (Don’t worry about the plot flaws… haha)
